On Wednesday, Apple finally unveiled its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo  at its “Surprise and Shine” event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro line, new Apple Watch models, and updated AirPods. People have talked about a folding iPhone for years, under names like iPhone Ultra and iPhone Fold. Apple has now settled that debate. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model, with pre-orders opening on October 16 and the phone shipping on October 23.

Here is everything confirmed about the iPhone Duo price, release date, specs, and features, plus what it means for buyers in Nigeria.

Pre-orders open on Friday, October 16, at 5 am Pacific Time (1:00 PM WAT). The phone becomes available on Friday, October 23. Apple will launch the iPhone Duo in more than 70 countries and regions in this first wave, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US. A second wave of 28 more countries and regions follows on October 30.

The iPhone Duo ships about five weeks after the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, which went on sale on September 18. Reports point to production challenges behind the Duo’s delayed launch.

One detail matters for everyone buying this phone. The iPhone Duo uses eSIM only in every country. No model has a physical SIM tray anywhere in the world.

iPhone Duo price and storage

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB in the US. Apple’s press release also mentions an $83.29 monthly payment option for 24 months, through Apple Card Monthly Instalments. This is 0% financing on a purchase, and it is only available in the US.

That makes the 2TB iPhone Duo the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold.

Apple also offers a separate lease option called Apple Upgrade, run through Klarna. This costs between $57.99 and $92.81 a month on a 24-month term, or between $82.99 and $132.81 a month on a 12-month term, before tax and trade-in. This lease differs from the standard $83.29 monthly financing option and is US-only. Apple has not shared monthly lease prices for the 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB models yet.

iPhone Duo specs

The iPhone Duo uses a grade 5 titanium frame, mirror-polished, with 85% recycled titanium in its enclosure. The hinge cover is 3D-printed titanium, made from more than 100 components, and a titanium plate sits at the bottom of the inner display. Apple has not described the whole hinge as a mix of titanium and aluminium, only the hinge cover.

Ceramic Shield covers the back of the phone, while the front outer display uses Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says gives 3 times better scratch resistance than before. The inner foldable display uses a custom polymer cover with a nano-texture finish, built to reduce glare and hide the crease. The phone carries an IP68 rating, so it can survive up to 6 meters of water for 30 minutes.

Open, the iPhone Duo measures 5.2mm thick. Closed, it measures 11.3mm thick and weighs 254g. It comes in two colours: Star White and Night Sky.

The iPhone Duo has two screens. The inner display measures 7.6 inches, and the outer display measures 5.4 inches. Both use Super Retina XDR technology with ProMotion, Always On support, and peak brightness of 3000 nits outdoors.

Apple says the inner display is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max screen, and the outer display covers 90% of the screen area on the iPhone 18 Pro. You may see other numbers online, like a claim that the inner screen is 80% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple has not made that specific claim anywhere in its own materials, so treat it as an inference rather than a fact.

Apple also hasn’t shared a fold-cycle rating or crease-durability number for the Duo. That is normal at launch, but it matters more here than with a regular phone, since foldable screens wear differently over time.

The iPhone Duo runs on the A20 Pro chip, the same chip found in the iPhone 18 Pro line. Apple says the 6-core CPU runs up to 20% faster than the A19 Pro, and calls it the fastest CPU in a smartphone. The 7-core GPU runs up to 40% faster and uses less power, and the new Dual 16-core Neural Engine doubles the compute power of the previous generation. Apple built the chip on a 2-nanometer process and paired it with a custom vapour chamber, which the company says gives the Duo up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

Apple has not shared how much RAM the Duo has, which is standard for the company. Pre-launch reports pointed to 12GB, but this remains a rumour until a teardown confirms it.

The iPhone Duo carries a 48MP Dual Fusion rear camera system. The main camera sits at 26mm with an f/1.6 aperture, and the ultra-wide camera sits at 13mm with an f/2.2 aperture and a 120-degree field of view.

There is no separate telephoto lens, but Apple markets a 2x optical-quality zoom by cropping into the 48MP main sensor. Total zoom reaches around 4x optical quality and 10x digital. The Duo also skips the variable aperture found on the iPhone 18 Pro, and it doesn’t get the Pro model’s dedicated telephoto camera.

On the front, the Duo actually has two separate cameras. A 12MP Centre Stage camera sits on the outer display and can widen its frame to fit more people. A second, hidden under-display camera sits under the inner screen for FaceTime calls when the phone is open.

The outer display unlocks four camera features you will not find on any other iPhone:

• Smart Take, which uses the A20 Pro chip to capture a photo automatically once everyone is posed
• Duo Preview, which shows a live preview on the outer screen so your subjects can check how they look
• Kid Cue, which plays short animations to get children to look at the camera

For video, the Duo records 4K at 120fps in Dolby Vision on the main camera, applies Cinematic effects after you shoot, and supports 4K time-lapse in Dolby Vision HDR.

The iPhone Duo runs on two batteries, one on each side of the fold, which work together as a single power source. Apple rates the phone for up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display, up to 44 hours using the outer display, and up to 24 hours of typical daily use that splits time between both screens.

Apple has not shared the battery capacity in mAh for either half. Early rumours mentioned figures between 5,000 and 5,500mAh combined, but these numbers remain unconfirmed.

For charging, Apple says you can reach 50% in around 20 minutes, but only with a 60W or higher adapter (sold separately) paired with a USB-C cable. The box only includes a cable, not a power adapter. If you use a 35W or higher adapter with a MagSafe charger instead, you will reach 50% in about 30 minutes.

You may have seen a claim online that 5 minutes of charging gives you 5 hours of video playback. That figure doesn’t appear anywhere on Apple’s iPhone Duo pages. It likely comes from confusion with the iPhone 18 Pro Max, where Apple does state that 5 minutes of charge gives up to 7 hours of playback. Do not apply that number to the Duo.

The Duo also supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, both up to 25W.

The iPhone Duo has no Face ID. Instead, Touch ID sits inside the side button, and it works whether the phone is open or closed. You can also unlock the Duo using your Apple Watch.

The phone ships with iOS 27.1, not the initial iOS 27 build that rolled out on September 14. Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI features also arrived with that iOS 27 release.

Apple Pencil support with USB-C is coming to the Duo later in 2026, not at launch, so you will not be able to write or sketch on either screen right away.
